The Federal Way Chorale
In the spring of 1993, a
small group of Federal Way musicians gathered with the
desire to form a community Chorale. These people loved to sing
and saw a
need for a Chorale that would emphasize the performance of
quality choral
literature from all musical ages and styles. Because of great
pride in their city,
the first board proudly selected the name of
FEDERAL WAY CHORALE at its inception.
In its first season, the Chorale not only sang
two major works, Handel’s “Messiah” and
Schubert’s, ”Mass in G”, but they also sang
a wide variety of quality octavos based on the
theme we still use each spring, “From Bach to
Broadway”. It has been the belief that each
Chorale program should have something for
everyone’s taste.
After spreading the word, some 130 singers
sought information and auditions were held.
Eighty-eight singers were selected and the
Federal Way Chorale, under the direction of
Don Barrows, began its first rehearsal in the
fall of 1993.

The Federal Way
Chorale has grown to become a premier regional choir in the
Puget Sound. Each season, the Chorale strives for musical
excellence and performs for diverse audiences with a wide
variety of musical pieces and styles. The group distinguishes
itself with dynamic performances and professional presentation
of demanding choral literature from the masters to the light
music of today. This tradition continues under the direction of
our Artistic Director,
Laird Thornton.
